Does TD Ameritrade have options on futures?
Futures and futures options trading services are provided by TD Ameritrade Futures & Forex LLC. Trading privileges are subject to review and approval. Not all clients will qualify. Margin trading increases risk of loss and includes the possibility of a forced sale if account equity drops below required levels.

Futures markets are open nearly 24 hours a day, six days a week, allowing you to react to global events, hedge, and speculate on a variety of indices, commodities, and currencies to help manage your portfolio outside of U.S. stock market hours.
Futures have several advantages over options in the sense that they are often easier to understand and value, have greater margin use, and are often more liquid. Still, futures are themselves more complex than the underlying assets that they track. Be sure to understand all risks involved before trading futures.
How do I apply for futures approval? Visit tdameritrade.com and log in to your account. Go to Client Services > My Profile > General. Under Elections & Routing, look for Futures, and click Apply.
A pattern day trader who executes four or more round turns in a single security within a week is required to maintain a minimum equity of $25,000 in their brokerage account. But a futures trader is not required to meet this minimum account size.
No Time Decay
Instead, outright futures contracts will actively track the spot price, and your initial entry point will determine the profit or loss made on the contract, also referred to as the spread. However, options on futures experience time decay as that is technically “a derivative of a derivative.”
You don't have to have the margin in place to buy options on a futures contract, and your loss is limited to the premium no matter what direction the underlying moves. When selling options on a futures contract, your maximum loss is unlimited, while your maximum profit is limited to the premium.
Futures offer higher potential profits but also higher risk, while options provide limited profit potential with capped losses. However, Options require lower upfront capital compared to futures.
The futures markets provide direct access to trade a variety of products and contracts, both financial and commodities, which are not available through stock option trading. This means that futures can offer greater diversification which can help offset the risk of having all your eggs in one directional basket.
Is futures good for beginners?

Level 4 – Naked Calls & Puts
The ability to sell naked calls and puts provides access to the riskiest options trading strategies, such as naked straddles, strangles or naked calls and puts.
There is no minimum funding required to open an account. However, special promotional offers may have requirements. Electronic funding minimum is $50. Margin or option privileges on account require a minimum of $2,000.

An option on a futures contract is very similar to a stock option in that it gives the buyer the right, but not obligation, to buy or sell the underlying asset, while creating a potential obligation for the seller of the option to buy or sell the underlying asset if the buyer so desires by exercising that option.
You are considered a pattern day trader if you place four day trades or more within a five-day period. You must also maintain an account balance of $25,000 or more. TD Ameritrade does not recommend, endorse, or promote a “day trading” strategy, which may involve significant financial risk.
This can be a risky form of trading, but it also has the potential to generate large profits. If you are starting with a small amount of capital, such as $10 to $100, it is still possible to make money on futures trading.

Can I trade futures with $500?
Some small futures brokers offer accounts with a minimum deposit of $500 or less, but some of the better-known brokers that offer futures will require minimum deposits of as much as $5,000 to $10,000.
By focusing on a single market, you can get up to speed quicker. Trading futures for a living is a compelling idea — but to do it successfully, you'll need sufficient startup capital and a well-designed trading plan.

Placing fewer than 4 day trades in any rolling 5 trading day period will help avoid a PDT flag.
