Mortefi is one of the best supports you can upgrade in Wuthering Waves, especially if you have the right items to build him.
When The Forest is No Longer Dim is one such quest, and it takes you to the Giant Banyan. This area is initially contaminated by spores that deal damage if you stay in it for too long. However, after finishing this quest, you won't have to deal with those anymore.

The quest starts with a distress call from a certain location. When you get to that location, you'll first have to defeat a few exiles and then find a key to free the main researcher. This key can be found inside a tent, and it'll be marked with a quest icon once you investigate the cage keeping the researcher locked up.
She will then take you near the Giant Banyan where you'll be asked to locate another researcher. At this point, you'll see some yellow highlighted areas on the map. Go into these areas and use your sensor to locate some yellow beams on the ground. Here's where you'll find them:
- The first bean can be found in the middle of a few animal bodies with a red aura on them.
- The second one can be found in the middle of a fallen tree branch.
- When you get to the third yellow circle, you'll finally find the researcher.

After finding the researcher, you'll be taken to multiple contaminated zones where you'll have to solve a small puzzle to direct a beam of light at the offshoot core in the middle. To do this, you'll have to start the beam by hitting the first mechanism marked by the quest, and then rotate the others in a specific direction.
All these tasks can be achieved by simply hitting the mechanisms. The best way to do it is by following the light and rotating the mechanism it's currently on. With that in mind, here are the steps to solve all the puzzles:
First Zone |
|
---|---|
Second Zone |
|
Third Zone |
|
Using a character with pistols like Mortefi or Chixia makes it a lot easier to hit the mechanisms.
After you finish the second zone, you'll have to help the researchers create some antibodies. To do this, you'll see three different items in the area. You have to read the subtitles at the bottom of your screen and click on the items displayed in yellow color.
How To Open The Research Institute
After clearing the three containment zones, you'll have to access an abandoned Research Institute. When you head there, you'll first have to fight a bunch of Hooscamps. Once they're defeated, you'll have to solve three grid puzzles in the following way:
First Puzzle (Near the door) |
|
---|---|
Second Puzzle (To the right side) |
|
Third Puzzle (To the left side) |
|
There's a chance that you might get bugged here and a cutscene might not trigger when you enter the Institute.
To fix this, simply restart the game and enter again.
In the end, you'll have to reach the top of the Banyan, defeat a bunch of Hoochiefs, and the quest will be over.
